Our first BART trip

San Francisco Transportation

After being in the Bay Area for a couple of months, we have finally embarked on our first BART trip. Our final destination was downtown Berkeley to visit my brother, Brandon, and see Andy Warhol’s polaroids at the Berkeley Art Museum.

Jewish Deli Berkeley

We met up at the downtown station (A) and walked to Saul’s (B) because I have been craving a good pastrami on rye at a Jewish deli. I ended up actually getting the eggs benedict with pastrami, but close enough. We continued on to the museum (C) for the main event. His polaroids were amazing, but the major exhibit at the art museum was “State of Mind: New California Art circa 1970.” Let’s just say they did some crazy stuff.

While waiting to meet Brandon’s girlfriend for ice cream, we went to his favorite bookstore, Moe’s (D). It is four levels of new, used, and rare books. And, of course, couldn’t leave without getting a new cookbook

Sustainable Berkeley Ice Cream

We then walked for what felt like forever...Ryan and I have never really spent much time in Berkeley, so we had no idea where we were or where we were walking to. We finally arrived at a tiny ice cream shop, Ici (E), with a huge line out the door. This was no ordinary ice cream shop. This a gourmet place where they make the ice cream in small batches, with flavors changing daily. I got a scoop of the lemon creme brulee in a chocolate tipped cone. It was delicious and look forward to going back to try more flavors.

After a lot more walking than expected, I am glad that I didn’t wear my flip flops. And that we got a ride back to the BART station because we had no idea how many miles away we were.

  1. Sounds like fun. Now you'll know how to get the BART and meet me when I'm visiting San Francisco next week. Hope to see a lot of good art and eat a lot of good food in the bay area. Plus see you. See you soon!
